spurgeon.

“The fig tree may not blossom, and the flocks may cease from the field, it matters not to the man who can sing, ‘My Beloved is mine, and I am His.’ Our best portion and richest heritage we cannot lose. Whatever troubles come, let us play the man; let us show that we are not such little children as to be cast down by what may happen in this poor fleeting state of time. Our country is Immanuel’s land, our hope is above the sky, and therefore, calm as the summer’s ocean; we will see the wreck of everything earthborn, and yet rejoice in the God of our salvation.”

by far my favorite spurgeon quote to date. oh the beauty of Jesus Christ unchanging.

no greater love than this.

You are the mighty Warrior, Lord
Who broke the back of hell
Yet not without great loss of blood
And even death itself
You stripped Yourself of glory
To lift me from the mire of sin

Greater love has never been seen
You paid the greatest price
To make us Your redeemed
Greater love has never been known
No other love’s so deep
No other love’s so sweet as Your love

You are the Prince of Glory, Lord
Majestic, holy King
The fairest of ten thousand, Oh
Why should you notice me
Yet so much tender mercy
For helpless sinners fills your heart

This past weekend, the people in the above picture performed for the very last time Godspell, my favorite musical. And lots of them just plain performed for the very last time. No more high school shows. A new season of life is coming for them, just like it comes for everyone.

Last year I was in the very same position, faced with change I didn’t want to deal with. Its not easy this change. Now not all of these kids have always just known one group of friends, one church, or one home, but all of them do have one thing in common: they’ve all only known one way of life. Their parents have been making most, if not all, of their decisions up until now.

Now it’s their turn. Slowly, yet surely, the weight of life and its decisions will fully come to rest on their shoulders. And that starts with graduating high school, leaving youth group, going away to college, picking a vocation, getting a job, and so much more.

But the thing they will learn the most, is how to fully trust God in every single aspect of their life. Its not easy. In fact, it might be one of the hardest things they will learn to do. But if they do not, all the weight of this new season will crush them.

Dearest senior cast (and non senior cast), God is good. and God is ever so faithful.

I love you.

IWillLiftMyHands.

Be still, there is a healer
His love is deeper than the sea
His mercy, it is unfailing
His arms, a fortress for the weak

Let faith arise
Let faith arise

I lift my hands to believe again
You are my refuge, You are my strength
As I pour out my heart, these things I remember
You are faithful, God, forever

Be still, there is a river
That flows from Calvary’s tree
A fountain for the thirsty
your grace that washes over me

Let faith arise
Let faith arise
Open my eyes
Open my eyes

I lift my hands to believe again
You are my refuge, You are my strength
As I pour out my heart, these things I remember
You are faithful, God
You are faithful, God, forever

_psalm48:12-14

“Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.”
